Velma Lee Gladden, 91, celebrated Mother's Day by going home to be with her Lord and Savior on May 10, 2009.

She has joined her husband, Buford Gladden, a long-time Casa Grande cotton farmer, whom she married 70 years ago.

Velma was born on February 22, 1918 in Mead, Oklahoma to Myra and Charles Summers as the sixth of 10 children including six brothers and three sisters. She is survived by one sister, Verna Winters of Peoria, AZ and one brother, D.L. Summers of Blythe, CA. She is also survived by her daughter, Bonnie Gladden and her son, Douglas Gladden along with their spouses, Joe Curl and Jayne Gladden. Her seven grandchildren include: Todd Lawrence, Lissa Gladden, Mindy Peterson, Heather Lawrence, David Gladden, Vickie Torres, and Cenci Rodriquez. She was also blessed with 10 great-grandchildren and 32 nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to either: Christian Family Care Agency, Inc., 3603 N. 7th Ave., Phoenix, AZ 85013-3638 or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Services were held privately by the family.

Simes Mortuaries Casa Grande Chapel was entrusted with arrangements.
