Georgia Gail Smith, 76, passed away Sunday, March 11, at her home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Hamilton's Southtown Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Georgia was born September 12, 1930, in Truro, IA to Zelma and Edwin Phillips. She grew up in Truro and moved to Des Moines in 1948. She worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company and in the 1950's owned and operated a miniature golf course. From 1950 to 1976 she owned the Airport Highview Motel. Georgia loved to cook and her home was always open for friends and family. She enjoyed playing cards and cribbage with her many friends and was an avid football and baseball fan.

She is survived by her children, Doyle (Kate) Smith of Des Moines, DeLasta (Dan) Weigand of Freeport, NY; her sister, Lola (Lyman) McKee of Payson, Arizona, her two grandchildren, Dylan and Dustin Smith and her step-granddaughter, Jessica Weigand, Georgia was preceded in death by her sister, Theola Donner and her parents.
