Rosie (Contreras) Figueroa

Rosie Contreras Figueroa, 64, passed away Sunday, May 5, 2002, in Tucson.

She was born in Superior on Sept. 9, 1937.

A long-term homemaker, Mrs. Figueroa collected Chinese and other Oriental cultural items such as works of art. She also enjoyed the cuisine of that region. She helped as a luncheon server at the Superior St. Mary’s Center and liked reading, computer games, spending a lot of time with her own brothers and sisters, watching a variety of selected sports events and playing bingo. She really enjoyed the casino pleasures and was a member of the Boyce Thompson Southwest Arboretum.

Mrs. Figueroa was preceded in death by her husband, Marcelino E. Figueroa II.

She has a large family surviving her. There are four sons, Chris Contreras of Mesa, Jaime Figueroa of Superior, Marcelino Figueroa III (friend Todd Francis) of Phoenix and Johnny Figueroa of Tucson; four daughters, Kathy (John) Noriega, Angela Figueroa (Michael Peralta) and Elizabeth Figueroa, all of Superior, and Tanya Figueroa (fiancé John Phillip Tomerlin) of Chandler; brothers, Jesus Contreras, Armando (Marie) Contreras, Patrick (Josie) Contreras and Guillermo (Virgie) Contreras, all of Superior; Mary (Gilberto) Velasquez of Superior, Guadalupe Commons of Apache Junction and Frances Contreras of Phoenix; 12 grandchildren, all of Superior; brothers-in-law, Angel (Teresa) Figueroa, Raul (Ana) Figueroa and Ronnie (Linda) Dominguez; and sisters-in-law, Yolanda (Ricardo) Larez and Mary Lou (Jesus) Lopez.

The Wake and Rosary Service for Mrs. Figueroa was Thursday, May 9, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Fr. Marcos Velasquez celebrated the Mass of Christian Burialin the church on Friday, May 10. Interment at Fairview Cemetery.

Superior Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
