Manuela Socorro Sims

Manuel Socorro Sims, 84, of Hayden Junction, passed away Saturday, May 16, 2009, in Tucson.

Born in Hayden Feb. 2, 1925, she was a lifetime resident of the Copper Basin Area. She was a homemaker and liked baking and making tortillas, some of which she would sell. Busy all her life, she was the Post Master in Hayden Junction, taught school in Dudleyville, and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and income tax.

A wonderful mother, she loved taking care of her family. She will be greatly missed by all.

Survivors include her six children, Yvonne (Robert) Perez of Hayden Junction, Susan (Bill) Sims of Aravaipa, Emmett (Frances) Sims Sr. of Hayden, Richard (Diane) Sims of Michigan City, Indiana, Robert (Judy) Sims of Dudleyville and Thomas (Mary Helen) Sims of Dudleyville; 18 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Thursday, May 21, from 7-9 p.m. at Griffith Mortuary in Kearny. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Dale Branson at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Hayden on Friday, May 22, at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Hayden.
