Arizona Daily Star, The (Tucson, AZ) - Sunday, October 22, 2017 CARVAJAL, John Loren, passed away peacefully on October 15, 2017. John was born on December 30, 1929 in El Paso, TX to Vernon Carvajal and Mary Goodloe. Raised by his father in El Paso, he was the first in his family to graduate from college; completing his bachelors in chemical engineering from the University of Texas via the ROTC in 1952. John married the love of his life, Margi Carter, in 1951. After four years of service as a Naval Officer, his civil career was at Union Carbide as a chemical engineer and plant manager in Texas, Puerto Rico, Louisiana and West Virginia. He retired and relocated to Arizona in 1993 to be close to his grandchildren. Preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Margi and son, David; his daily cheerful and humanizing presence is carried on by his sons, John Loren (Virginia), James (Texas), Thomas (California) and Scott (Tucson); daughter, Jeanne Arquette (Tempe); eight grandchildren, Greg, Kristina, Dan, Kate, Wilgene, John, Nicolas and Joaquin and a great-granddaughter, Evelyn. Dad was always energized by spending time with children. He taught all of his children and most of his grandchildren to swim. Throughout dad's life he enjoyed learning about history and nature; he would recognize the plants and animals we encountered, and would mimic animals' calls. Wherever he lived, he also knew the names of all the children and pets in the neighborhood. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the Reid Park Zoological Society. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon Chapel. |
