Alfred Loren Makela Born in Carbonado, Washington on Oct. 23, 1913. Departed on Dec. 23, 2003 and resided in Cottonwood, Arizona. Alfred Loren Makela, 85, a resident of Cottonwood since 1994 died December 23rd, 2003. He was born in Carbonado, Washington and lived most of his life in the Seattle area. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the Army Air Corp. He worked as a merchant for many years and later retired from land development. Mr. Makela was an outdoor person and loved golf. He felt honored to be in the first foursome to play Pine Shadows Golf Course. He ran every day for many years, before jogging became popular. Mr. Makela was preceded in death by his son Steven. He is survived by his wife of 63 years Jeanette; a daughter Susan Mozzone and her husband Don, of Cottonwood. He also leaves six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. There are no public services planned. Private burial will be in Acacia Memorial Park in Bothell, Washington. Donations in his memory may be made to the Northern Arizona Alzheimers Association, 225 Grove Avenue, Suite B, Prescott, Ariz., 86301-2911.
