The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Tuesday, February 13, 2018, page 5a Jimmy F. Gordon, of Prescott, age 67, died Friday, Feb. 9, after a long struggle with pancreatic cancer. He was born on Aug. 30, 1950, to Lloyd and Esther (Ochsner) Gordon, in Whittier, California. He attended California State University — in Fresno, California — obtaining a degree in physical education. During that time, he married his wife Danelle (Leonard) Gordon. They had a happy and loving marriage for 43 years. In 1975, Jim accepted a teaching position at Lemoore High School, in California, and remained there for 33 years, until his retirement in 2007. During that time, he served as an educator, administrator, athletic director and varsity basketball coach. He was a highly successful coach, winning many league and valley championships. He loved his players dearly and had some of the most talented teams the Central Valley has seen. Jim was a leader. He modeled honesty and integrity in the way he treated people. He led his home well, loving his wife and training his children to be rooted, stable and committed to their callings in life. As a principled man, he always stood for what was morally right. He loved to defend the weak and stand for vulnerable. In addition to these positive qualities, most of all Jim understood he was a sinner, saved by grace. It was the gospel of Jesus Christ, and his sacrificial death, that gave Jim the most joy and happiness. Jim loved the Lord because the Lord had loved Jim first. Through his sickness, he remained joyful and confident to the end, knowing that Jesus will raise him to eternal life. Jim leaves his family the greatest gift, not money, not earthly success, not worldly wisdom, but the gift of unswerving faith in the promises of Jesus. His leadership in this way has left the most profound blessing upon his family. Jim is survived by his wife, Danelle; his son, Christopher Gordon and his wife, Darcy; his daughter, Nicole Alvarez and her husband, Jorge; his brother, Gary L. Gordon and his children, Ashley and Lloyd; and his six grandchildren. A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 14, at Heritage Memory Mortuary, 131 Grove Ave., in Prescott. Final commendation will follow at Heritage Memorial Park at 12010 E. Heritage Memorial Lane in Dewey. Jim’s son, Pastor Christopher Gordon, will be officiating the services. In lieu of flowers, Jim would be honored by gifts to Abounding Grace Radio or Canyon Bible Church of Prescott. Information provided by survivors. |
