| Lake Havasu Mortuary & Crematory - Lake Havasu City, Arizona - Robert “Bob” Garland Walker, 81, passed away at his home in Lake Havasu City surrounded by his family on Wednesday, January 14, 2015. He was born on August 07, 1933 in Hominy, Oklahoma to Ernest and Louise (Wolfe) Walker. Bob enlisted in the US Marine Corps at the age of 16, lying about his age. He served in Korea as a machine gunner and as machine gun squad leader with C Company of the 1st Battalion, 1st Marine Division and went on to serve on the Inspector Instructor Staff and completed tours in Okinawa, Japan and the Philippines. Bob’s service included the British Jungle Guerilla Warfare School in Malaya, followed by a short tour as an observer with the Vietnamese Marines. During the Vietnam War, Bob volunteered for duty with the 1st Marine Division, serving as a platoon leader. He was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant over the radio while on patrol along the Ho Chi Min trail, deep in the Vietcong territory and later, on a 3rd tour in Vietnam he served at Force Logistics Command in Danang, as a Combat Operations Officer. Bob was the first Marine to repel from a helicopter in Vietnam and taught survival skills to Marines. He made an honorable career of over 20 years in the US Marine Corps and retired as a captain. Bob met his beloved wife, Sharon, while they were both in the Marine Corps at Camp Pendleton and married on May 28, 1960 in San Clemente, Ca. after three weeks of knowing each-other. Bob was an avid collector of Military Memorabilia, traveling all over the country to add to his prized collection of rare military artifacts. Many of his items were on display at the American Heroes Museum at the Ramada Express in Laughlin, NV. Bob retired from Northrop Corporation as a Supervisor in Southern California and moved to Lake Havasu City 28 years ago. He was the founder of the Marine Corps League in Lake Havasu as well as the founder of the ‘Devil Dogs” program. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and the Marine Corps League, serving on the Honor Guard among other things. Bob was a family man who was always there to lend a hand to anyone in need. He was a strong, honorable, reliable, hard-working and kind man who loved his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as his beloved dog of 15 years, Kiwi. Bob loved to watch old movies and read novels, sometimes finishing a novel in a day. He was a Marine through-and-through and lived the life of an honorable Marine, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. SEMPER-FI Bob is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Sharon Walker of LHC, AZ.; children, Cindy Prather of Houston, TX., Shannon (Dan) Hedding of LHC, AZ., Bob Walker of LHC, AZ. And Patrick Walker of Las Vegas, NV.; grandchildren, Kevin Farbowich of CA., Tamara (Jeff) of Utah, and Taylor and Ryan Hedding of LHC, AZ.; great grandchildren, Hailey, Hayden and Quentin Clark of Utah; sister-in-law, Laurel Walker and his extended family, Danny Hedding, Steve Mahathey , Jeff Wing and Del. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Louise and his siblings, Virginia, Catherine, Ernest and his twin, Andy. Memorial Service and celebration of Bob’s life will be held at 11:30 AM on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at the Elks Club with military honors presented by the Marine Corps League Honor Guard.
