Arizona Courier Journal, Prescott, Arizona Thursday, January 9, 1947, page 2, column 7 Former Frontier Days Rider Dies In Accident Flagstaff - January 8 - John LeRoy Fredericks, famous early days rodeo star, died in the Flagstaff hospital early this morning of a brain concussion said to have resulted from injuries in an automobile accident near Cottonwood on Dec. 27. Apparently not seriously injured, Fredericks, went about his business as a stockman following the accident, but became unconscious Tuesday afternoon, and was taken to the hospital. He won the worlds bronc riding championship at the Prescott Frontier Days celebration in 1912, and served with the Army overseas in World War I. Survivors include his wife, of Flagstaff, two sons, a daughter, two sisters and two brothers. He was born at Pomona, Calif., Feb. 12, 1889.
