Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, AZ - Posted on March 11, 2018 >> June 17, 1932 – Feb. 26, 2018 << Mary Hester McDaniel was peacefully called home to be with her Lord while surrounded by her family on Feb. 26. She was born to Walter and Bessie McCaig in Tennessee. She later moved to Detroit, Michigan, where she worked in the auto industry. She met, fell in love and married her husband, Wallace (“Wallyâ€) McDaniel. They were blessed with three children: a son in 1956, a daughter in 1958 and a son in 1962. In 1957, they moved to California. They drove across the country on Route 66 to Los Angeles with their young son. Mary worked as a machinist while in the L.A. area, operating many different machines, while raising her three children. In 1969, the family of five moved to Banning. There she became a certified nurse’s assistant, caring for the elderly, working in convalescent care for 30 years. She retired in 1994. Her husband, Wally had been diagnosed with cancer, so Mary devoted her time to taking care of him. She lost her husband on April 5, 1999. She moved to Lake Havasu City after her husband’s death to live with her daughter, son-in-law and three grandchildren. Her greatest joy was knowing God and being able to watch her grandchildren grow up, eventually marry and have children of their own, making her a great- grandmother, known as “GG.†Mary was proudest of her family. Her face lit up when talking about them. She was a simple, quiet woman who enjoyed reading, crocheting and growing flowers. Preceding her in death were her loving husband Wallace “Wally†McDaniel, parents Walter and Bessie McCaig, and all of her siblings: sisters Mattie Long, Minnie, Willie, Mildred and Ruby and brothers Brown and Mack. She is survived by her children. Gary McDaniel, Donna Francis (Chris) and Ron (Virginia), grandchildren and great-grandchildren Brian Francis (Amy and their daughter Marley), Mark Francis (Star & Blu, great-grand-dogs), Kayla Stutler (Kenny and children Roxas, Lucy, Eleanor (Ellie) and Penelope (Penny), Daniel O’Connell and Nicole Ortega plus many nieces and nephews. Mary loved animals, especially her dog, Roxy and granddogs Twinkie, SuzieQ and Stryker. Visitation is March 12 at 11:30 a.m. at Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home followed by 1 p.m. graveside services at Lake Havasu Memorial Gardens.
