James "Jim" Wooten (1937 - 2018)

Surprise--James Dee Wooten, 80, passed away on Tuesday, June 12, 2018, at his home in Surprise, AZ. Born September 22, 1937, he was raised in Portsmouth, OH, and graduated from Portsmouth High School, class of 1955. He married Augusta Collier in 1957. They started their family while in Portsmouth, later moving to Fairborn, OH, and then Phoenix, AZ. His life's work included positions with Williams Shoe Factory, N&W Railroad, Chrysler Airtemp, Honeywell, and Marcon. He was an excellent marksman and an active member of the Wickenburg Sportsman's Club. He was proud to be a 32nd Degree Mason, a ham radio operator, and to have served many years in the Naval Reserves. Jim will be forever loved by his wife of 61 years, Augusta (Collier) Wooten; his three daughters, Ginger Wooten Cain (Rick) of Surprise, AZ, Gina Loss (Clint) of Helena, MT, Gerri Stewart (Cris) of Glendale, AZ; and his son, James David Wooten (fiancé Jennifer) of Anthem, AZ. He will be fondly remembered by his grandson James Stewart; his granddaughters Amanda and Maeghan Wooten; step-grandson Blake Cain; two brothers, Wallace McKinney of Manafee (sic: Menifee), CA, and Terry McKinney of Waverly, OH; and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service is planned for July 13 at the Masonic Lodge in Sun City, AZ. Those who so desire may make memorial donations in memory of Jim to their cancer research charity of choice.
