Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona Thursday, September 29, 1949, page 32, column 5 Verde Valley Pioneer Dies Prescott, Sept. 28 - John J. McWhorter, Arizona pioneer who settled at Camp Verde in 1875, died Wednesday at the Pioneer Home. He was 88. McWhorter was born in Cloud county, Kansas, July 7, 1861. He had been a resident of the Pioneer Home for eight years. He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Laura Buttrick, Monterey, Calif.; Mrs. Nora Maders, Dewey; a brother, James E.
