R. Emmett Claiborne, passed away May 5, after suffering from a fall April 4. He was born in Mt. Home, Ark. on Nov. 1, 1908. The family moved to Idaho when he was 4 yrs old. He attended grade school in Eden, ID. and graduated from High School at Jerome, ID. He came to AZ. in the fall of 1931 and being a farmer at heart started growing yams & watermelons in the Phoenix area. Sept. 22, 1934 he married Helen Gallmeyer at Zion Lutheran Church, Phoenix. Emmett was called into the service July 1943 and served in the South Pacific returning home in Nov. 1945. In 1948 he purchased the Ace Refinishing Service refinishing appliances and worked there until retirement in June 1948.
Emmett and Helen adopted a son, Alan age 3 mo. Alan passed away in 1992. In 1971 Emmett and Helen moved to Black Canyon City, AZ. and he became a member of Grace Luth Church and was also a member of the Braggin Rock Club.
Services will be held at Grace Luth Church on Fri. May 11th at 2 PM, in Black Canyon City.
He is survived by his wife, Helen. Brothers Glen, Earl, Haden. Sister: Ruth all of Idaho & Sister; Ruby of Nevada. Proceded (sic) in death by his brother Ray, Daughter-in-law Donna Claiborne. Grandsons; Ian, Amos, Jacob and their mother Sherrie. 2 great-grandsons.
Memorials may be sent to Grace Luth Church or Ambulance fund of B.B.C.
