Joanne Carol Donnelly, 73, died May 6, 2009, under hospice care in Snowflake. She was born Aug. 14, 1935, in San Diego, Calif. She grew up on Mission Beach and graduated from La Jolla High School in 1953.

She attended San Diego State University and then started a career in dental hygienistry. During this time, she met and married her lifelong partner, Van Patrick Donnelly, and they started a family.

They moved to San Marcos, Calif., where there was plenty of room to raise animals and grow a vegetable garden. She was a very loving and caring mother and wife. She devoted her whole life to taking care of her family and putting everyone else's needs above hers.

In 2001, she moved to Arizona to be closer to her son and daughter. Her hobbies included sewing, knitting and making crochet monkeys for her grandchildren. She also loved watching "Animal Planet."

She was preceded in death by her husband, Van Patrick Donnelly (April 24, 1986), daughter Marianne Carol Donnelly (Jan. 13, 1987), mother Dorothy Marcharnd Reynolds and brother Jack Marchand Reynolds.

Joanne is survived by her son, William Allen Donnelly of Pinetop-Lakeside, grandson Sean Dean Adams of Tempe and granddaughter Cassandra Marie Adams of Show Low.

Her earthly remains will be buried in Escondido, Calif., with a private family ceremony.
