Elsie Sophie Henriette Aronson, 89, of Payson, followed her angels to heaven on June 18, 2008. She was surrounded by the love of her family when she succumbed to cancer. Elsie was born on a farm in Willow Township, Iowa on April 12, 1919 to Fred and Marie (Topf) Kiepe. Elsie and Cliff Aronson were married on June 2, 1940 in Ute, Iowa and spent their early years farming and running a grocery store in Charter Oak, Iowa. In 1947 they moved their family to Fort Collins, Colorado, where Cliff worked for a time on the Horse Tooth Dam, then Monfort Meat Packing in Greeley, CO, then they moved on to a new adventure of running ranches in northern Colorado. In 1970, Elsie and her husband moved to Phoenix, AZ where they had horse property and held many a team roping with Elsie taking entries, announcing, keeping time and figuring the pay out. In 1977 they relocated to Payson, buying horse property, boarding horses, selling Joe Roberts corral panels and more team roping. After moving 27 times in her married life Elsie decided Payson was truly home forever. Elsie was a very special lady, a hard working rancher's wife and dedicated homemaker. She was a devoted mother and radiated with love for her children especially her beautiful special needs daughter, Marcia, whom Mom so passionately cared for 58 years. Mom loved to laugh, smile, hear jokes and listen to country western and gospel music. She was a very genuine, warm, caring, the salt of the earth kind of person and always enjoyed visiting with company and her many friends. Her kitchen was always open and she never hesitated to make a down home cooked meal for company and hungry cowboys. Her fried chicken and gravy couldn't be matched. She was thrilled when the people boarding horses at her place and her friends would have a surprise party for her in the barn. Both Elsie and Cliff were staunch supporters of the Arizona Junior Rodeo, High School Rodeo Assc. and the Payson Pro Rodeo. Elsie's hobby was embroidering, making T-towels and pillow cases. She and Marcia attended the Pine Country Craft show for 25 years selling her prized and intricate work. She had many repeat customers that looked forward to visiting with her and Marcia and purchasing new designs. Her work is a treasured lost art. Elsie was preceded in death by her husband Cliff, in 1991, after 52 years of marriage, her parents and her beautiful daughter Colleen Staudinger on Feb. 14, 2008, and her sister Helen Mahoney. She is survived by daughter Karen of Tolleson, AZ, son Dick (Lois) of Tolleson, AZ, daughter Marcia of Payson, son-in-law Jim Staudinger of Greeley, CO, sister Margie Downing of Iowa, grandsons Trevor Aronson of Fort Collins, CO, Devon Aronson (Darci) of Phoenix, Troy (Tasha) and Ty Staudinger of Greeley, CO, great grandchildren Kyler Aronson Baker, Kody and Kaylee Staudinger of Greeley, CO and Tanner Aronson of Phoenix and numerous relatives in Iowa. A memorial service will be held on June 28, 2008 at 1:00 pm, at the Rock of Ages Lutheran Church, 204 W. Airport Rd., Payson, AZ 85541. The Mary Martha Society of the church is graciously providing food and beverages following services. Donations may be made in Elsie's name to RTA Hospice and Palliative Care, 511 S. Mud Springs Rd., Payson, AZ 85541 or Rock of Ages Lutheran Church for office equipment. Arrangements entrusted to Messinger Payson Funeral Home and Chapel, in Payson.
