Posted 2009-06-01 by White Mountain Independent
Patricia "Pat" Viss, an amazing Christian woman, died April 18, 2009. Pat was born to Drucilla (Dru) and Theodore (Ted) Viss on Dec. 16, 1942, in Ripon, Calif.

She spent her young years in Ripon, graduating from Ripon Christian High School. She received her bachelor's degree in education from Dordt College in Sioux Center, Iowa, and her master's degree in special education from Arizona State University.

Her teaching career was spent in Phoenix Christian Elementary School, Cartwright School District and on the White Mountain Apache Indian Reservation at Whiteriver Elementary School.

Her students were blessed with her wonderful sense of humor and her expectation that all could and would learn.

She was a longtime member of the White Mountain Chorale, as singer and executive secretary. She was a fine photographer. She loved to travel, hike, camp, have breakfast, lunch and dinner with family and friends, plan and participate in family reunions, listen to great music and laugh a lot.

She had the gift of friendship. "And we all hear her saying, 'I'm fine.'"

She is survived by her siblings, Theodore "Ted" (Jane) Viss Jr. of Ripon, Calif., Marietta "Mer" (Jim) Wiegerink of Honeybrook, Pa., Rebecca Viss of Medford, Ore., and Deborah "Deb" (Jim) Bailey of San Diego, Calif.; nieces and nephews; and many, many friends.

A celebration of her life was held at the White Mountain United Methodist Church, 251 N. 5th St., in Show Low Saturday, May 30.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Organ Fund at the White Mountain United Methodist Church.
