Don Taylor, age 85, of Prescott, died on May 9, 2007, at a local care home in Prescott.

Don was born Sept. 21, 1921, in Paris, Brant County, Ontario, Canada, to James Andrew Murray Taylor and Nellie Jean Taylor.

Don attended grade school and high school in Paris. World War II broke out shortly after Don graduated from high school, and in September of 1939, he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army's Highland Light Infantry of Canada.

In 1941 he transferred to the Royal Canadian Air Force where he served in Halifax, Nova Scotia, until he was discharged in 1943 due to complications from Scarlet Fever, which he contracted while in the Army.

After being discharged, he worked for several Canadian firms as an accountant, including a mining concern and a timber products company.

In 1945 he married Margaret Harris of London, Ontario, Canada. Their first and only child, Paul D. Taylor, was born in London in 1953.

In late 1955, Don fulfilled a 10-year dream and legally emigrated to the United States, having applied for entrance almost 10 years prior. With entrance visas in hand, he sold his home and most of their belongings, bought a 40-foot Spartan Trailer and a '56 Ford wagon and made an exciting trek to California. Intending to settle in Santa Barbara, they made an overnight stop at a trailer park in Santa Ana, Calif., which turned into a 36-year stay. Don worked for various equipment rental firms including Blystone Co. and ADCO equipment rental as both an accountant and later as a controller.

In November of 1989 on an overnight stay in a Prescott RV park, they found a retirement house and spent the next three years moving their belongings. In May of 1992, Don retired and he and Peggy moved to Prescott full-time, where they enjoyed good company and the small-town feel.

Don is survived by his wife, Margaret P. Taylor; his son, Paul D. Taylor, and Paul's wife Susan G. Taylor; three grandchildren, Mrs. Jane M. McCurley, Andrew M. Taylor and James E. Taylor.

A Graveside Service will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 17, at the Mountain View Cemetery.

The Hampton Funeral Home assisted the family with the arrangements.
