Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on March 30, 1922.
Departed on Oct. 14, 2002 and resided in Page Springs, Arizona.

Thomas McKean Allen, Jr. passed away unexpectedly on Monday, October 14 at the stoneyard in Page Springs, Arizona.

Tom was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on March 30, 1922. He attended the Haverford School for Boys in Philadelphia. He served a tour of duty in South Africa with the American Field Service where he drove an ambulance. He left the Easr for the West as a young man and arrived in Colorado. He moved to Arizona sometime in the late 1940's where he worked on a ranch. He married Ingrid Matthews in 1952 and they made their home at Hidden Valley Ranch. Tom and Ingrid worked as extras in many of the early movies made in Sedona.

Tom was the founder and owner of Hidden Valley Stoneyard, which he started in the early 1950's with just a few pallets of flagstone from Ashfork. Since that time, the stoneyard has grown and is currently operated by his long time friend and business partner, Mike Wilkin. Tom was always willing to share his knowledge about his favorite subject; rocks.

He is survived by his daughter, Linda Allen Kappel, granddaughter Abragail McKean Kappel and son-in-law, Gary Kappel of Page Springs. Two step-sons, Lawerence Matthews, also of Page Springs and Jaxon Matthews of Calif.. He is also survived by his sister, Sally Gaines of Penn., brother Ben Allen of Ohio, half sisters Betty Erlenbusch, Roberta Bowman of Calif. and Sandra McMullin of Penn.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 26th from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Hidden Valley Stoneyard, the place that he so dearly loved. If you would like to contribute a potluck dish feel free to bring someting and anyone wanting to share a story or memory will be welcomed to do so.
