The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona Wednesday, February 24, 1954, page 9, columns 2 & 3 Mrs. Taylor, Pioneer of Prescott, Dies Mrs. Florence May Newman Taylor, who came to Prescott in 1877 from Oregon, died yesterday afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Florence Marshall, 212 S. Pleasant St. She was 81 years old and had resided here and in the Verde Valley during a long, rich life. Pending word from children in the family, funeral services will be held in Cottonwood with interment in the Middle Verde. Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Marshall, Mrs. Myrtle Slaughter of Fairbanks, Alaska, and Mrs. Viola Reid, Phoenix, and three sons, Ben Taylor, Challenge, Calif., Frank Taylor, Las Vegas, Nev. and Zeke Taylor, Cottonwood. There are two sisters, Mrs. Francis Houck and Mrs. Emma Leslie, and a brother, George Givins, all of Phoenix. Mrs. Taylor also is survived by eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Married in 1892 to Benjamin Franklin Taylor, the couple resided on cattle ranches in the Verde Valley for many years. Mrs. Taylor returned to Prescott to make her home in the 1930's and for the past three years has resided with her daughter. She was born Feb. 4, 1873, in Oregon. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge and Veterans of Foreign Wars auxiliary of Prescott. Mrs. Taylor attended the Pioneer reunion in Phoenix held each Spring. ----------------------------------------------- The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona Friday, February 26, 1954, page 16, column 4 Funeral Services Planned For Florence Taylor, 81 Prescott - Funeral services for Mrs. Florence May Newman Taylor, 81, long-time resident of Yavapai County, who died here Monday, will be at 2 p.m. tomorrow in the Cottonwood Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the Middle Verde Cemetery with graveside services conducted by officers of the Prescott Rebekah Lodge.
