John E. Smith Sr. passed away in Kingman with family at his side on June 3, 2009. John E. Smith was born in Gilmer, Texas, on Feb. 6, 1936, and was preceded by his father, L.D. Smith; and brothers, Oscar and James Ray Smith. John is survived by his mother; wife, Mary; seven children, Evona, Cindy, Darlene, Connie, Johnnie, Jill and Justin (Boot); and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. John will be missed by all who knew and loved him. John and his wife Mary have lived in Golden Valley for the past 26 years. John was in Teamsters Union 631 as a job steward working in Laughlin, Nev., and Las Vegas, retiring in 1998. Prior to moving to Arizona, John hauled logs in Madras, Oregon, with his brother Rodney Smith from the 1960s through 1986. John spent the last years of life traveling with his wife Mary doing many things they enjoyed - fishing, hunting, sightseeing and bailing hay in Juntura, Ore. A private memorial service will be held in Golden Valley to celebrate his love of life and family. Kingman Daily Miner Friday, June 12, 2009. |
