| Elizabeth Jane Hickey Lambert, 84, passed away in Mesa on Thursday, June 4, 2009. Betty Jane was born Feb. 27, 1925, in Phoenix, the daughter of William James Hickey Sr., (also known as Wig Kohl) and Della May McGriff, Arizona pioneers. She is survived by two sisters, Erma Danielson and Margie Gilsdorf; and predeceased by two brothers, William James Hickey Jr. and Michael Edward (Mickey) Hickey. Betty married William Elvis Lambert in Phoenix on Aug. 15, 1942; he died Aug. 24, 2000. They are survived by four children, William Franklin Lambert and David Edward Lambert, both of Sierra Vista, and Elizabeth Elaine Lambert Duncan of Victorville, Calif., and Kitty Sue Lambert of Buffalo, N.Y. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren. Betty was a waitress and cook at the Ryan Evans drugstore lunch counters at 27th Avenue and Northern, and at 16th Street and Thomas, and later at the Senor Taco Restaurants in Kingman. For those fortunate enough to have enjoyed a home-cooked meal at her kitchen table, they savored meals prepared with flavor, love and caring. Betty was kind and generous and shared a smile with everyone she met. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and she and her husband served as missionaries and family history consultants at the LDS Family History Center in Salt Lake City and in Kingman. Betty loved to sing hymns, her favorite being "There Is Beauty All Around When There's Love At Home." She will be missed but never forgotten by her posterity and friends. A graveside service was held on Friday, June 12, at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N. Cave Creek Road, and a memorial service at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Page Ward Building, 3572 E. Guadalupe Road in Gilbert. Kingman Daily Miner Wednesday, June 10, 2009. |
