Joan (Goodman) Talley - Green

Joan Talley Green died Saturday, May 30, 2009, in her home after a long struggle with the disease of scleroderma.

Joan was born Oct. 2, 1929, in Safford to Dorothy and Clarence Goodman.

Joan met Jan L. Talley in August 1945 in Safford. Japan had just surrendered from the war, and there was a great celebration Downtown. She recalled it as “happy, happy times.”

Joan waited for Jan as he finished his time overseas serving the country. They were married Jan. 26, 1947. Joan and her family moved to Willcox in 1958.

These were some of Joan’s favorite years because her whole family was there together. They also met a lot of wonderful people and made great friends. They lived there for 14 years and were sad to say goodbye.

In September 1966, the Talley family went to Mesa and were sealed together for eternity in the Mesa LDS Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The Talley family moved back to Safford in 1973. Jan died in March of 1989 of prostate cancer.

Joan married Brooks Green on Feb. 1, 1995, and they spent 10 wonderful years together before he died in November 2005. Joan worked as an accountant for many years. She will always be remembered for her great cooking, love of sports and her competitive spirit while challenging you to a card game.

Joan was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had such a strong testimony of the Gospel. Joan is survived by her children: Lyn (Collette) Talley, Van (Anne) Talley, Rochelle (Rory) Mullen; and Brooks’ children, Debra Green and Steve (Bobbi) Green; her twin sister, Joyce (Lee) Maylen; her brother, Tony Good-man; 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Joan is preceded in death by her parents, Jan L. Talley; Brooks Green; her son, Jan Steven Talley; and her brother, Barry Good-man.

Funeral services were Saturday, June 13, 2009. in the Safford LDS Stake Center.

Interment in the Graham Cemetery.

Arrangements under the direction of the Caldwell Funeral Chapel.
