Phillip M. D'Agostino

Phillip M. D'Agostino was born in Chittenango, N.Y. on March 29, 1925 and went to heaven on May 14, 2009. He lived in New York until 1969 and then was transferred by General Electric/Honeywell in Phoenix. He retired in 1985 and lived in Prescott Valley. His ashes are in the Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Prescott.

He was a World War II veteran with the U.S. Army from 1943-1946 and received an Honorable Discharge. He landed on Omaha Beach Aug. 15, 1943 and was transferred from the Army Corp of Engineers to the 26th Division during the Battle of the Bulge. He received a citation from the French Government for meritorious service to his country and was awarded the Bronze Star as a First Class Private on Feb. 4, 1944 in the European Theater Operations during the Rhineland Campaign.

Phil served the American Legion Post in many offices and served many positions including Commander, Sergeant of Arms and Past Adjutant. He had 63 years of continuous membership in the American Legion. He was a member of the local Color Guard and helped many times placing flags on Highway 69 in Prescott Valley for special holidays. He worked with the Boy's State program, volunteered at St. Vincent de Paul Food Bank for 12 years and served 17 years at the Veteran's Memorial Hospital in the Prescott/Prescott Valley area.

Phil liked to go camping with the family and create numerous crafts and woodwork. He will always be remembered for being able to build and fix anything.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Dolores Schmid D'Agostino; two daughters, Diane D'Agostino of Phoenix, Ariz. and Jan Waggoner, husband, Chris Waggoner of Colo.; grandson, Raymond D'Agostino, Phoenix; a brother, Carmen D'Agostino; sister, Mary Brewer both of the Syracuse, N.Y. area and many nieces, nephews and friends. Phil will be greatly missed by all.

A memorial service for Phil will be 2 p.m. Friday May 29, 2009 at Sunrise Funeral Home, 8167 E. Highway 69, Prescott Valley, Ariz.
