William J. "Bill" Guderian, age 78, died Monday, May 25, 2009 at Rolling Hills Manor in Prescott. He was born Jan. 15, 1931 in Algona, Iowa to Henry and Ruth Guderian.

Bill graduated from Algona High School in 1949. He enlisted in the Navy during the Korean conflict and served as a radioman on a destroyer in the Pacific area until his discharge. He attended San Diego State University and graduated from there in 1959. He went to work for Sears, Roebuck & Co. and worked there until he retired in 1990.

Bill enjoyed astronomy and science fiction and will be remembered most for his humor. His children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were very special to him.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Charlene of Prescott; sister Jeanne Bacon of Lake Forest, Calif.; and sons Steven (Vicki) of Oakley, Calif. and Michael (Shea) of Corona, Calif.; five grandchildren, Nicole (Micheal) Stapledon of Sparks, Nev., Erika (Steven) Porter of Martinez, Calif., Ashlee Guderian of Carson City, Nev., Lacey and Taylor Guderian of Corona, Calif.; and three great-granddaughters, Victoria, Julia and Mekaylyn Stapledon of Sparks, Nev.

A Memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 16, 2009 at the Prescott United Methodist Church, 505 W. Gurley St., Prescott, Ariz.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the United Methodist Church Music Department, 505 W. Gurley St., Prescott, Ariz., 86301 or YRMC Hospice, 3262 N. Windsong Drive, Prescott Valley, Ariz., 86312.

The Neptune Society took care of the arrangements.
