Effie Arlena (Dempster) Judd

Effie Arlena Judd, 74, passed away peacefully in her home on June 9, 2009. She was born at home in McMullin, Mo., to Milas and Genola Dempster on Feb. 24, 1935.

Arlena, affectionately known as Yea Yea, grew up in Missouri until the age of 15, at which time her family relocated to Benson, Ariz., where she met the love of her life, Archie James "Jim" Judd. The two attended Arizona State College (ASU), where Arlena earned an associate degree in business. Arlena and Jim were married 53 years and had three beautiful daughters, Susan (Jeff) Hinkins, Janice (Jay) Soutee and Karen (Kenny) Jones.

Her life was centered around her family and friends. Arlena enjoyed church activities, hiking, fishing, camping, volunteering with Prescott People Who Care, and traveling. However, her most precious time was spent with her four grandchildren, Kristin and Sara Hinkins and Kolten and Kody Jones.

Arlena was a special woman full of faith, love and compassion for all, and she will be deeply missed. She is survived by her loving husband, Jim Judd; brothers Bob (Judy) and Larry (Carol) Dempster; sister Charlotte (Brad) Smith; her children; grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 11, 2009, at Hampton Funeral Home in Prescott, Ariz. The graveside service will be at Cochise Gardens in Benson, Ariz., on June 12, 2009. A memorial service will be in Prescott at Trinity Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, June 16, 2009, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials to Family Care Hospice (928-541-1750) or any hospice of your choice.
