David William Wuerthele II died peacefully at his home in Wickenburg, on April 7, 2020. Dave was born on April 15, 1939, in Pennsylvania, the first child of Dorothy (Smith) and David Wuerthele. He graduated from Westfield High School, Westfield, N.J., in 1957. He attended Allegheny College in Meadville, Penn., where he earned his bachelor's degree in 1961. It was at Allegheny that he met his wife of 59 years, Christine (Tina) Miller.

Together they raised three children, Rich Wuerthele of Easton, Penn., Glen Wuerthele of Palmer, Mass., and Lorna Mattern of Cambridge, N.Y. They created a beautiful, welcoming home in Wilbraham, Mass., where they lived for 30 years. During this time, Dave attended Suffolk University in Boston, where he earned his MBA. For three decades he was the registrar at Springfield College where he started and served as the director of the summer session. He loved coaching youth sports and was instrumental in helping girls soccer grow in western Massachusetts. He was the first girl's varsity soccer coach at Minnechaug Regional High School in Wilbraham.

Dave and Tina retired to Wickenburg in 1998. Again they worked hard to establish a lovely, inviting home. They belonged to many social groups and hosted annual 4th of July and Christmas Eve gatherings. He was an active volunteer for the Desert Caballeros Western Museum and the Wickenburg Walk to Boot Breast Cancer. He enjoyed travel, gardening, antiquing and DIY projects.

In addition to his wife and children, he is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Mike and Sue Wuerthele of Vermont; sister Debbie Danz of New York; seven grandchildren, Josh Wuerthele of New Jersey, Colin Wuerthele of London, Kellsey Wuerthele of Massachusetts, Keith Mattern of Florida, Mary Wuerthele of Washington, Henry Mattern of New York, Cam Wuerthele of Maryland, and his great-grandson, Declan David Wuerthele of New Jersey.

Arrangements will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Phoenix Rescue Mission, PO Box 6708, Phoenix AZ 85005, or Phoenixrescuemission.org.
