Freddie Gonzalez

Freddie Diaz-Gonzalez, 81, Kearny, went to his eternal rest on his birthday, Feb. 18, 2006.

Mr. Diaz-Gonzalez was born Feb. 18, 1925 in Sonora, Arizona, to Arturo and Juanita Diaz-Gonzalez.

A lifetime resident of the area, he worked for Kennecott Copper Corporation as a pipe fitter for 40 years before retiring in 1983. He served in the United States Army during World War II, seeing action in Okinawa. He was a member of the VFW.

Mr. Diaz-Gonzalez is survived by his wife of 55 years, Lydia Padilla Diaz-Gonzalez of Kearny; sons, Freddie Ray (Rita) Diaz-Gonzalez of Florida and Randy (Melody) Diaz-Gonzalez of Chandler; grandchildren, Valarie Burnsed of Florida, and Daniel, Angela and Paul Diaz-Gonzalez, all of Chandler; great-grandchildren, Alyssa Burnsed and Alan Burnsed Jr., both of Florida; brothers, Arturo Diaz-Gonzalez and Joaquin Diaz-Gonzalez, both of Superior; sisters, Annie Castro of Kearny, Sofie Soto of California, Arcelia Velez of Kearny, Dora Sanchez of California and Irene Ramirez of Phoenix.

He was preceded in death by sisters, Esther Berumen and Angelita Flores.

Memorial services for Mr. Diaz-Gonzalez were held at the Ray High School Auditorium on Friday, Feb. 24, with Pastor Dave Bewley and Pastor Joe Palmer conducting
