Published by Arizona Daily Sun on Apr. 4, 2021 - Flagstaff, Arizona - Cecelia (Gomez) Baca passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of March 14, 2021, with her daughter and son-in-law by her side at the age of 81. Cecelia was born October 8, 1939, in Flagstaff, Arizona to Leon and Elvira Gomez. She attended South Beaver Elementary School and began working at the young age of 13 as a maid at the Weatherford Hotel. She graduated from Flagstaff High School in 1958 and attended Beauty School shortly thereafter. Once she graduated from beauty school in the early 1960's she began working and building her loyal clientele at Windsor's Beauty Salon and retired after a long successful career in the business in 1995. She met her husband in 1968 and together they had a daughter. Prior to her rare kidney disease diagnosis in 2015, Cecelia was the life of the party and the family comedian. She would frequently entertain her family at gatherings and parties with jokes, funny stories, and imitations with so much animation. She had a genuine love of people and human connection. She never met a stranger and had many friends and acquaintances. She could strike up a conversation with just about anyone, anywhere she went, regardless of how ill she may have felt and enjoyed company. Her surrounding neighbors visited her often and went out of their way to assist her without hesitation and for that, we are thankful. She made the most delicious tamales and enchilada's that were requested by many family members and had a very big and giving heart. Cecelia was a devoted mother and would do anything for her grandchildren, attending many of their school functions, sporting events and taking them on outings. She never let a day go by without telling her daughter and grandchildren that she loved them. She will always be remembered for responding, "I Love You More", when anyone told her that they loved her. Cecelia is survived by her daughter, Theresa (Terri) Morales; Son-in- law, Carlos Morales and grandchildren, Amber Morales and Adam Morales. She is also survived by her step-daughter, Elaine (Rossana) Quintana and her three children and 8 grandchildren. Cecelia was the sixth of 14 children born to the Gomez family. Cecelia is also survived by her brothers, David Gomez, Johnny Gomez, Leon Albert Gomez and Frank Gomez as well as sisters, Concha Bustamante, Mary Cancino, Petra Orders, Eleanor Espinoza, Mary Jessie Sepulveda, Elena Mendoza, and Patty Flores. She was proceeded in death by her husband Raul A. Baca in 2001, her parents, her brother, Jimmy Gomez, an infant sister and several nephews. She will truly be missed by her family and friends and it will be difficult to move on imagining a world without her in it. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to the National Kidney Foundation of Arizona, in Cecelia's memory. Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 12th beginning with a Rosary at 10:00 am at San Francisco De Asis Catholic Church, 1600 East Route 66, Flagstaff, AZ. A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 am and burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Condolences and memories may be shared with the family at www.FlagstaffMortuary.com. See Also: Find A Grave |
