Published in Parker Pioneer from Apr. 22 to Apr. 23, 2021 - Parker, Arizona - Delford Thomas Stevens, 73, of Parker, passed away Sunday, Jan. 31, 2021 at John C. Lincoln Medical Center in Phoenix, Ariz. Del was born on Feb. 17, 1947 to Thomas and Virginia (Nopah) Stevens. He is survived by his sister, Ferdina (Stevens) Barrackman, nephews: Monte Stevens Sr, Thomas Barrackman, Granthum Stevens and Tomarco Stevens, nieces: Marsha Barrackman, Luanna Rodriquez, Anissa Carter and Lynnette Stevens. A member of the Colorado River Indian Tribes and great-grandson of the late Chief Manataba, he was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Carlyle Stevens, Lynford Carter and Milton Stevens; and one sister, Lucinda Stevens. He was a 1965 Parker High School graduate and earned a Vocational Degree in Commercial Cooking from Haskell Junior College in 1967. After his service with the United States Army in 1968, he held various jobs in the Parker area and also worked for Good Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix, Ariz. In 1995, he became employed at the Blue Water Resort & Casino as a vault cashier and after 18 years he retired in 2013. Throughout his life, Del was actively involved in his tribal community with the CRIT Band, CRIT Election Board, CRIT Museum Advisory Board and an active member of the CRIT MoChemHoNa Senior Program and chair volleyball team. He also served as a volunteer representative on the Arizona Indian Council on Aging under ITCA. Del was a respected and well-known man in the Parker community. He was an amazing person with a great sense of humor, a selfless heart, and had a unique gift of writing. He enjoyed socializing with people and he could spend hours conversing about meaningful things such as culture, tradition, family and history. One of his prized possessions was his personal Mohave library that was passed down to him by his father and he was always willing to share his knowledge and history. He is a true treasure that will be missed by his family & friends. A military service and tribal rites of cremation were held on February 10, 2021 at the Parker Funeral Home and CRIT Ahamakaav Tribal Cemetery. |
