Born in Fossil Creek, Arizona on Nov. 28, 1915.
Departed on June 22, 2004 and resided in Camp Verde, Arizona.

Virginia Smith Newton, 88, of Camp Verde died June 22. She was born November 28, 1915 in Fossil Creek, Arizona.

She did Apache basket weaving, sewing and attended Apache social dances and sunrise ceremonies. She also enjoyed being around family and members in the community and welcomed all visitors into her home.
She was the wife of the late Ralph Newton.

Mrs. Newton leaves two daughters, Rhoda Lennon and Sally Newton, both of Camp Verde and several grandchildren.

A visitiation was held June 24. A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 25 in the Yavapai-Apache Baptist ''Rock Church'' on the Camp Verde reservation of the Yavapai-Apache Nation, Rt. 260 at General Crook Trail at 8 a.m.

Burial will be in the Middle Verde Tribal Cemetery.
