Published by The Arizona Republic from Jul. 2 to Jul. 24, 2021 - Phoenix, Arizona - Phoenix - September 22, 1932 - June 8, 2021 John McColl Barr, known to his close friends as Jack, the son of Jean Bond Barr and Robert Barr in Tarrytown New York; died peacefully on June 8, 2021, at the age of 88 in Phoenix, AZ. John graduated with honors from North Tarrytown High School, and went on to study Mechanical Engineering at the University of Cincinnati. While in school, John joined the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps program. John was commissioned and ultimately attained the rank of Captain in the Air Force Reserves. John began his post university career with AT&T being posted to Bell Labs in New Jersey and Western Electric in Chicago where he worked on some of the first printed circuit boards that allowed for innovations such as the push button phone and the princess telephone design. John attended the University of Chicago Booth School of Business graduating with an MBA in 1967. Advancing his career, he moved into an executive position with ITT serving posts in NYC, Paris, France, and Brussels, Belgium. Finally, John moved to Phoenix, AZ to serve as Vice President for manufacturing at VODAVI Technologies. After his official retirement, John began his second career serving 21 years preparing Income Taxes for H&R Block. Always a lifelong learner, he became an enrolled agent with the IRS in 2012 at the age of 80! John finished out his 2021 contract at H&R Block on April 15 just a month and a half before passing. Jack has many dear friends gathered over the years, and more recently, he enjoyed the many social events coordinated by the Prime Timers of Phoenix. John was a devoted friend, son, brother and father, and could always be counted on to offer support and encouragement. John was predeceased by his sister Jean Barr Galella. He is survived by brothers Robert and George Barr and their families; Daughter Elizabeth Johnston and husband David, son John McColl Barr, Jr and wife Janet Sue Krueger as well as long-time friend Tony DiGasparis and family. John is to be interred at the National Memorial Cemetery in Phoenix, AZ on Friday Sept. 10, 2021, at 10:00a.m. See Also: Find A Grave |
