Chief Van Hook passed away peacefully on June 1, 2009. He was born Sept. 11, 1957, in Decatur, Ill.

After moving to Camp Verde in 1986, he worked for Tudor Parts & Machine, but he always wanted to fulfill a lifelong dream of becoming a firefighter. He started his career as a volunteer at the Montezuma-Rimrock Fire Department, working his way to Captain - affectionately known as "Captain Hook."

The highlight of Berry's career was the position of Fire Chief for the town of Clarkdale.

Surviving are his wife Cindy Van Hook, children, Berry, Ryan, Jason and Kimberleigh Van Hook, Monica Jaenicke, step-children Shauna and Joshua Fowler and nine grandchildren.

Viewing will be held on Friday, June 5, from 6-9 p.m., at Chapel of the Chimes - 7924 N 59th Avenue, Glendale, Ariz.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 6 at 9 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ LDS - 14878 N. Verde Vista Drive, Surprise, Ariz. - all friends and family welcome.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Chief Van Hook Memorial fund (account # 3000000725) at Desert Schools Federal Credit Union.
