Published by Today's News Herald on Oct. 24, 2021 - Lake Havasu City, Arizona - Russell Sturgeon, 88, of Lake Havasu City, passed away on Monday, October 11, 2021, at his home in Phoenix. Russell was born on April 14, 1933, in Detroit, Michigan, the son of Russell and Mary Sturgeon. He married his best friend and soul mate, Anne Marie Slivka on September 13, 1958. In 1951, Russell enlisted and proudly served in the United States Army where he was stationed in Germany as part of US Army Transportation Corp. In 1961, he joined the San Bernardino City Fire Department and after 27 years ended his career as a Battalion Fire Chief. In 1994, Russell joined the Civil Air Patrol based in Lake Havasu, eventually earning the rank of Commander, Major. Married for almost 60 years, Russell and Anne raised three children: Sister Maria Perpetua, M.I.C.M, Stephen Russell, and John Michael. For those that knew him, Russell loved to regale with stories of his time riding trains in Europe with the US Army and flying his Beechcraft Bonanza across the United States. In addition to his parents, Russell is preceded in death by his wife Anne Marie Sturgeon and his brother Donald Sturgeon. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, October 26, 2021, at Shadow Mountain Mortuary, 2350 E Greenway Rd, Phoenix. Fr. Courtney Krier from St. Joseph's Catholic Church will offer the Funeral Mass, followed by interment in National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona with full military honors.
