Virgil Alvin Jackson, 74, of Camp Verde, died May 25, 2009. He was born Nov. 27, 1934, in Camp Verde to Willy and Rose (Clem) Jackson.

Virgil loved animals; he could often be found tending cows and chickens. He always had a friendly wave to passers by as he walked through town. He worked as a caretaker and handyman for his longtime friend Vera Francis, who preceded him in death.

Virgil is survived by his sisters, Carol Williams, Debra Talese, Flora Engle, Vivian Burdette and Rose Morgan; his brothers, Danny Jenkins and Melvin Jackson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside funeral service will be 9 a.m. Friday, May 29, 2009, at the Yavapai-Apache Nation Cemetery.
