Teresa Marie Newell, daughter, sister, aunt, niece, cousin, granddaughter, godmother and a friend to many, passed away May 10, 2009, at the age of 24. Teresa was born Feb. 1, 1985, in Silver City, N.M., to Frank and Alvira Newell. She lived in Lordsburg, N.M., until moving to Safford, where she grew up and graduated from Safford High School in May of 2003. She was the oldest of three girls, always full of life and proud of who she was. She enjoyed watching football, listening to music, dancing to kumbias, playing horseshoes and softball, spending time in the outdoors and, we can’t forget, drinking her Bud Light. She had a passion for drawing and was very creative and talented in anything she put her mind to. She also loved to cook. Before entering construction, she wanted to pursue a career in culinary arts. She was very dedicated to her work and was known for working hard, just like a man. She was also the type of girl nobody would mess with, including guys. Teresa was also known and loved for her silly sense of humor that could make anyone around her laugh. Her family was her first priority and greatest joy in life, especially her nieces and nephews. She was known for being No. 1 Auntie. The kids enjoyed always being with her. She was their pride and joy, and they were her life. Teresa is preceded in death by her grandparents, Jose and Josephine Vega; niece Alexis Ramirez; and cousin Alyza Espinoza. She is survived by her parents, Frank and Alvira Newell; sisters Kimberly and Maria Newell; stepsisters Francine and Savannah Newell; brothers-in-law Lonnie Carrasco and Jason Ramirez; nephews Isaiah and Izaac; nieces Mariah, Ariana and Ilyshia; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her. Funeral services were conducted Friday, May 22, at 9 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, with viewing one hour prior at Safford Funeral Home. Arrangements were under the direction of Safford Funeral Home. Published on Wednesday, June 10, 2009 in the Eastern Arizona Courier. |
