Jimmie Carrasco

Posted 2009-06-20 by Eastern Arizona Courier
Jimmie Carrasco, 67, entered into rest May 30, 2009, in San Jose. He was born in Morenci on October 18, 1941, to Santiago and Consuelo Carrasco.

Jimmie married Victoria Gonzales on June 22, 1963, and had three children. He later married Nancy Colvin on April 12, 1975, and they shared eight children, Jimmy, Martin, Charlotte, Rosalie, Joseph, Tammy, Dana and Tina.

Throughout his life Jimmie accomplished many things; he was outstanding at track, wrestling and as a football player at Hollister High School in California. He also earned several trophies for his ability to race cars and motorcycles. He received an honorable mention in the CCAL B and earned a scholarship for college. He also attended two years at Gavlin Jr. Community College before joining the work force. Once out of college, he worked as a field supervisor in California, a cement finisher and construction worker.

Jimmie started working for Sundt Construction in 1963 and survived a severe accident in 1967. He spent one and a half years in and out of hospital care and then went back to work. He worked as a general laborer, concrete worker, heavy equipment operator and a demolition expert until he retired as a superintendent in 1992. He resided in several locations throughout the Southwest until finally calling San Jose home in the 1960s.

His favorite things were his grandchildren, cookouts at home and being around the family he lived for. If you were to ask Jimmie, he would have said he was an expert fisherman, gardener and cook. He was the true definition of an outdoorsman and spent every minute he could under the sun. He also enjoyed playing the guitar, listening to country music and telling stories about his experiences, sometimes more than once.

Jimmie is survived by his wife, Nancy Colvin; his sons, Jimmie and Martin Joseph (Cheryl); his daughters, Charlotte (Karen), Rosalie (Ramon), Tammy (Tommy), Dana (Jody) and Tina (Leonard); mother, Consuelo; sisters, Rachel and Beatrice; 21 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Jimmie is preceded in death by his father, Santiago; two brothers, Neto and Michael; and his granddaughter, Seleana.
