Nila (Larson) East

Posted 2009-06-20 by Eastern Arizona Courier
Nila Larson East was born August 20, 1921, in Thatcher to Earl and Esther Morris Larson. Nila entered into rest Monday, May 25, 2009, in Pomerene.

As a young girl, she lived with her family in Glenbar and Thatcher. In 1933, her parents moved the family, which included Daphne, Thurber, Nila and La Var, to Pomerene, where she resided the remainder of her life.

Nila graduated from Benson High School in May of 1940 and soon after married Acel Wallace East in the Mesa Arizona Temple. Nila and Acel made their home in Pomerene, where they worked and raised their family. Together they had six children, Carolyn Thomas, Patricia Ann (Ben) East, Marlyn Dean (Doreen Manzo) East and Ellis Shawn (Kim Thelander) East.

She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Music was important to her. Her years of service in the church included working with music, and she enjoyed singing in the choir.

Nila operated her own beauty shop in Pomerene for many years. She had a love for horses and enjoyed the outdoors. She enjoyed going fishing with her husband, and they often took their camp trailer and traveled to the mountains.

Nila will be remembered for her love of sports. She could always be found on the sidelines watching high school sports. She was a big Benson Bobcat fan. Her family and friends will miss her; we love our Nana.

She and Acel have 22 grandchildren and 47 great-grandchildren. Nila was preceded in death by her husband, Acel.

Funeral services were held Saturday, May 30, at the St. David Stake Center on Pomerene Road and were under the direction of Richardson’s Remembrance Center.

Interment was at the Pomerene Cemetery.
