Mary Patricia Carlisle, nee Folan, 68, formerly of Phoenix, AZ, died of cancer October 20, 2003. She passed at home gracefully, surrounded by her family.

Born March 15, 1935 in Galway, Ireland, she became an R.N. in England. She immigrated to Canada with her mother and brothers in 1957. Mary married and had two sons. In 1976, she and the boys moved to Southern California. After spending 1-year in Hawaii, she settled in Scottsdale in 1990. Mary retired from Scottsdale Osborn in 2000 and recently moved to Lumberton, NJ to be with her sons following her diagnosis.

She was the only daughter of John and Elizabeth Folan. They proceeded her in death along with her brothers John, Martin, Thomas, and Patrick. Her sons Brian (Karen) and Ian; five grandchildren; three brothers Edward (Kathleen), Bernard (Maura), and Sean; sister-in-law Ilona; two nephews; and many friends survive her.

Mary was the epitome of what a nurse should be, always a compassionate caregiver, loved one, and friend to all who had the extraordinary good luck to know her. She was generous, gentle, humble, and kind to a fault. She will be terribly missed, we love her, and through us, she lives on.

Memorial Mass St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 3801 E. Greenway Rd., Phoenix, Az 85032, on Friday, October 24th. If desired, contributions in Mary's memory to Hospice of the Valley, 1515 E. Osborn, Suite 230, Phoenix Az 85014.

Submitted as part of the Derek Shields Eagle Scout Project.
