Orlando L. Fajardo

Born in Flagstaff, Arizona on March 18, 1932.
Departed on Oct. 8, 2006 and resided in Cottonwood, Arizona.

On October 8, 2006 long time Flagstaff and Cottonwood resident Orlando L. Fajardo passed from this world peacefully after a lengthy illness with his family at his side. Born on March 18, 1932 to Pablo and Beatrice Fajardo he was one of 14 children.

Orlando was the proud husband of 48 years to his wife Mary L. Figueroa. Orlando has three children Tony Fajardo (Gabriele), Barbara (Fajardo) Curley (George) and Cathy (Fajardo) Duran (Fernando), along with his children he has eight grandchildren Monika, Jason, Candace Fajardo, Daniel Fajardo, Julian, Stephanie, James and Selina Duran.

Prior to marrying the joy of his life Orlando proudly wore the uniform of the United States Air Force serving with the 23rd Bomb squad at Travis Air Force Base. A tragic airplane crash in Iceland prevented him from achieving his goal of Brigadier General as he so often described himself. Orlando had a long career with the Flagstaff Public School System having the opportunity to be one of the opening members of Coconino High School in 1969. From the school system he was asked to be part of the opening crew of Flagstaff Wescor Mall and maintained that position until he became the ”Supervisor of Operations” at Northern Arizona University until his retirement. Following his retirement Orlando and Mary moved to Cottonwood.

Orlando was very active with the Flagstaff Padre Miguel Hidalgo Knights of Columbus he was nominated and elected Grand Knight; he was also named as District Deputy of the region on four occasions. Orlando moved from Flagstaff to Cottonwood where he continued with the Knights of Columbus transferring his membership to the Cottonwood Verde Valley Assembly and remained an inspiration to old members and new members alike.

Orlando is preceded in death by his father Pablo, mother Beatrice, and brothers Tony and Paul sisters Esther and Helen.

He is survived by his brothers Joe, Pasqual, Robert, Richard and Larry two sister’s Fidela and Rafela and numerous nephews and nieces.

Evening Vigil and Holy Rosary will be Thursday October 12, 2006 at 7:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Chapel at 224 S. Kendrick, Flagstaff, Ariz. Funeral Mass will be Friday, October 13, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Chapel, 224 S. Kendrick, Flagstaff, Ariz.

Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
