| Leonard Kopperud Jr., 64, of Fountain Hills died suddenly on Sunday, Dec. 7, 2008 of an aortic dissection in Mesa. Len was born June 27, 1944 in Winona, Minn. He was the son of Leonard Kopperud Sr. and Audrey Kopperud and the oldest of four children. He graduated from Richfield High School in 1962 and immediately enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served until 1966. Len attended the University of Minnesota Institute of Technology and graduated with a bachelor of electrical engineering degree in 1971. He met the love of his life and soul mate, Vicki Landis in 1963. They married in 1967 and in the years that followed had three beautiful children. They spent much of their lives together in Minnesota, 16 years of it living in their dream home on Lake Richardson in Litchfield. Len and Vicki moved to Arizona in 1996 where they have lived since. Len began his career in the computer industry at Univac in Eagan Minn. He has continued his work in the computer field and has been employed by JDA for the past 12 years where he has created many close bonds. Len had many hobbies and talents. He particularly enjoyed golfing with friends, playing softball, woodworking and making special gifts for his family, and photographing his family, especially his beloved grandchildren, Jenna, Amber, Meghan, Alyssa, Kenadi, Samantha, Kayli, Jonny, Kierra, Wrigley and Eric Leonard. He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Vicki; son Jon; daughters, Kelli and Kathryn; and their spouses, Duriye, Troy and Greg. He is also survived by his three sisters, Betty, Mona and Andrea, as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Len will be fondly remembered for his compassionate, giving nature; enthusiastic smile, big cozy bear hugs, selfless attitude and mostly for his passionate love for his family – there was nothing more important to him. He was the heart and soul of his family, and he will be forever and ever in our hearts. We love you dad. A memorial service was held Friday, Dec. 12, 2008, at Messinger Fountain Hills Mortuary, 12065 N. Saguaro Blvd. Published in The Fountain Hills Times December 10, 2008. |
