Published by Mohave Daily News Online from Jan. 19 to Jan. 23, 2023 - Bullhead City, Arizona - Wanda Lee Stone, age 98, passed away on Friday, December 23, 2022 at her home in Fort Mohave, AZ. She was born February 11, 1924 in Williamson County, IL. to Paul and Edith (Owens) Rogers. She grew up on the family farm until the age of 16, when she moved to Johnson City, IL. She later moved to Herrin, IL. where she graduated from high school and met the love of her life, Harry Lee Stone. They were married on December 19, 1943. She moved to St. Louis, MO. and worked in a munitions factory while Lee went to Europe to fight in WWII. After his return home they lived in Washington, Italy, California, France, Missouri, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Hawaii, New Mexico and Florida as Lee remained in the US Army. They returned to Herrin, IL. upon his retirement. In November 2001 she moved to Fort Mohave, AZ where she lived out the rest of her life. She is a member of Mohave Valley United Methodist Church where she worked in the kitchen for several years providing refreshments after Sunday services and on special holidays and memorial services. She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Brian Lee Stone; her parents; two younger sisters, Wilma Matthews and Paula Turner. Wanda is survived by her daughter, Cyndi (Dave) Tank of Fort Mohave, AZ; granddaughter, Beth (Aaron) McGary of Vancouver, WA; grandson, Ryan (Toni) Farnell of Fort Mohave, AZ; granddaughter, Rachelle (Ronnie) Gustason of Yucaipa, CA; granddaughter, Jennifer Tank of Fort Mohave, AZ; and granddaughter, Rebecca (Rick) Tank-Perrone of Fort Mohave, AZ; 11 great-granddaughters; several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at Mohave Valley United Methodist Church, 1593 E. Lipan Blvd., Fort Mohave, AZ. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the church she loved so much. |
