James Calderone, 66, of Buckeye died from cancer May 23, 2009. He was born Dec. 18, 1942, in Chicago. He moved with his family from Illinois to California in 1954. Calderone and his wife, Anney, moved to Buckeye in March 2006 from Los Angeles. He served as an airman in the Air Force, where he learned aircraft maintenance. He then worked for United Airlines, where he stayed for 32 years as the manager of maintenance for Los Angeles International Airport. He served on the Buckeye Airport Advisory Board, Buckeye Business Connection and was an ambassador for the Buckeye Valley Chamber of Commerce. He is survived by his wife, Ann; one daughter, Lisa Lee; two sons, Dan Giannotta and Tony; his mother, Jean; one sister, JoAnn Kula; and 10 grandchildren. Memorial services were Saturday at Thompson's Valley West Funeral Chapel, 926 S. Litchfield Road in Goodyear. Donations may be made to Hospice of the Valley, 9720 W.
