Weekly Arizona Miner (Prescott, Arizona) Saturday, August 1, 1868, p. 3 DIED Near San Luis Obispo, California, June 28th, Col. Wm. H. Garvin, aged 38 years Deceased came to Prescott from Denver, Colorado, in the Spring of '65, and resided here until about a year ago, when he removed to San Francisco for the purpose of getting skilled medical treatment for a painful disease with which he was afflicted. While in San Francisco, he underwent several trying surgical operations, and bore the torture of the surgeon's knife with Christian fortitude. But somehow or other, these operations and accompanying treatment failed to restore his health and, by the advice of friends, he removed to San Luis Obispo, in the hope of regaining heath, but all to no purpose. His days were numbered and his Creator called him home. Col. Garvin held the position of Adjutant-General of this Territory, was a member in good standing of Aztlan Lodge, F. & A.M. of Prescott, and was highly respected by all who knew him. His untimely death is regretted by a numerous circle of friends in this, his adopted home. May the showers from heaven fall gently upon his grave, and may God in his mercy comfort and console his family and relatives. |
