Published by Today's News Herald from May 30 to May 31, 2023 - Lake Havasu City, Arizona - Charles (Chuck) Franklin Houston, born on Oct. 11, 1945, passed away peacefully at home on May 17, 2023. Chuck graduated from Santa Fe High School on June 14, 1963. He was drafted into the Army and was sent to aircraft mechanic school. He was then sent to Vietnam where Chuck became a machine gunner on an airship. There, Chuck was awarded an air medal for heroism while participating in aerial flight in the Republic Vietnam. He was honorably discharged in May 1973. Chuck enlisted in the United States Marines. He became very competitive on the Marine Corps rifle team. Chuck was honorably discharged from the Marines in April of 1989, as a sergeant. Chuck was undoubtedly a true American hero. As a lifelong member of the NRA, Chuck went on to win a national first place award at the 10th Annual High Power Rifle Silhouette Competition in 1982. He also was a very talented artist. He spent 25 years selling very beautiful professionally made pottery in Laguna Beach, California. He was also very talented with a paintbrush. He was an active member with the Sawdust Festival, and taught art classes at the senior center. He was a very avid motorcycle enthusiast and custom bike builder (old school). Chuck was a very honorable, loving, funny, and very generous human being. He truly will be missed. We love you, Chuck. Rest in Peace, Sir. Never to be forgotten. Please make a donation in Chuck's name to Hospice or the NRA. A service will be announced at a later date. Services were entrusted to the care of Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home. |
