Henry A. (Hank) Barbarick

Born in Vernon, Texas on Oct. 2, 1926.
Departed on Aug. 4, 2002 and resided in Cottonwood, Arizona.

Henry A. 'Hank' Barbarick, 75, of Cottonwood died August 4, 2002. He was born in Vernon, Texas on October 2, 1926.

He grew up in San Fernando, California where he was an athlete.

He joined the U S Navy during the end of World War II and served as a gunnery mate. When the war was over, he attended Arizona State University where he lettered on the Sun Devils team for three years. He received his Bachelors degree at A.S.U., then he received his Masters degree and Educational Specialist degrees at N.A.U.

He taught and coached at Douglas High School, Thatcher High School and San Manuel High School.

He came to Mingus Union High School in 1960 as a teacher and football coach. He became principal in 1965 and became superintendent of Mingus Union Schhol District in 1968 and served until his retirement in 1985. He will be remembered by many students, athletes, parents and school board members from Jerome, Clarkdale, Cottonwood and Sedona.

He was a member of the Jerome Lodge of Elks and was the Arizona State Youth Director of Elks. He was a past president of the Verde Valley Kiwanis and the Verde Valley Chamber of Commerce. He also was a member of the Verde Valley and National Superintendents Association, the National Campers Association andd the Campers Asssociation Cornballs.

A visitation will be held on Friday, August 9 in the Westcott Funeral Home from 5-7 p.m.. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 10 in the funeral home at 10 a.m.
