Hilda (Noble) Shoemaker

Born in Whitley County, Indiana on July 17, 1908.
Departed on June 3, 2002 and resided in Sedona, Arizona.

Hilda Shoemaker, 93, a homemaker passed away June 3, 2002 at Kachina Point Health Care in Sedona where she had been a patient for the past six months. She was born July 17, 1908 in Whitley County, Indiana, the only child of William Esta and Carol Arena (Vandersaul) Noble.

On August 30, 1928, she was united in marriage to Ralph Lee Shoemaker. They celebrated more than 64 years of marriage before his death on Christmas Day 1995.

In 1941, Mrs. Shoemaker and her family relocated from Larwill, Indiana to Inglewood, California, followed by a move in 1968 to Wofford Heights, Calif. The move to Verde Village came about in 1984. Her last residence of three and a half years was Verde Manor in Cottonwood where she enjoyed good neighbors and the attention of birds, ground squirrels and a pair of hand fed road runners. She loved cats.

She continued a family tradition of making patchwork lap robes and doll quilts which she donated to Catholic Social Services, may of which are still being enjoyed by the grateful recipients.

Mrs. Shoemaker was a member of the Mountain View United Methodist Church. In her last years she has been a resident of Kachina Point Rehab and Healthcare Center. Her family wishes to thank all of the staff for their loving care, sense of humor and compassion.

She is survived by her son Paul Alan Shoemaker, wife Julie Gray, Lake Isabella, Calif.; daughter, Donna Lee, husband M. Jay Pratt, Sedona; grandson, Stuart Pratt, Cottonwood, Shirley Shoemaker of Sun City, Calif., mother of grandsons David Shoemaker, Menifee, Calif. and Terry Shoemaker,Palos Verdes, Calif.; great-granddaughters, Nicole and Ashley Shoemaker, Menifee, Calif. and great-grandson, Jeremy Pratt of Sedona.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 15 in the Mountain View United Methodist Church at 10 a.m.

In her memory, donations may be made to the Mountain View United Methodist Church Building Fund, 960 S. 12th St., Cottonwood, Arizona, 86326.
