Born in Forman, North Dakota on Jun. 22, 1915
Departed on Mar. 29, 2002 and resided in Cottonwood, AZ.

Herman W. East, 86, of Cottonwood died March 29, 2002. He was born June 22, 1915 in Forman, North Dakota.

He leaves his wife of 56 years, Eunice East; daughter, Karen Atkinson, son Randy, wife Marsha East, all of Cottonwood; brothers, Wallace, wife Gail East, Park Rapids, Minn. and Robert, wife Jane Ea, Clearwater, Fla.; sisters, Betty Aarhus, Brainherd, Minn. and Dorothy, husband Dave Thoele, Plymouth, Minn.; six grandchildren, Cynthia Atkinson, Timothy Atkinson, both of Phoenix, Sandy East Hagland, Cottonwood, Leslie East, Flagstaff and Nathan East.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Myrtle Yurista and two brothers, Gordon East and Melvin East.

He was an Army veteran of World War II and was a life member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Mr. East worked for the state and county highway departments of Minnesota, he then worked five years for the State of Arizona and then was employed for 15 years with Phelps-Dodge Corporation in Ajo, Ariz.

He was an avid gardener, fisherman and did a lot of woodworking.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Those who wish may make donations in his memory to the Northern Arizona Hospice, 269 S. Candy Lane, Cottonwood, Arizona, 86326.
