Wickenburg Sun (Wickenburg, Arizona) Wednesday, June 26, 2024, p. A-5 Mortimer Leopold, son of Samuel and Edna Leopold, passed away peacefully on June 16, 2024 at his home at the age of 95. He is survived by Marilyn, his wife of 70 years; their children, Michael Leopold and his partner Kam Chan; Gail and Sheldon Sroloff; grandchildren, Matthew and Lauren Leopold, Samantha Rentz and Nick Glushchenko, Andrew and Yen Leopold, Alexa and Zachary Drobner; and great grandchildren, Kirby Leopold and Ira Leopold. Mort was awarded a Bronze Star having served two tours of duty during the Korean War. Mort was a director of sales and marketing for Textron Corporation and upon his retirement, moved to Wickenburg fulfilling his boyhood dream of living a western lifestyle of raising and riding horses. Mort's involvement and service to the Wickenburg Community was extensive. He loved riding. He completed 20 Desert Caballeros rides as a member of the Honkers Camp. Mort was a member of the Sheriff's Posse of Wickenburg. He also directed the Stag Rides for 15 years and helped create the trail at Sophie's Flats as a member of the Wickenburg Conservation Foundation. He was a member of the Wickenburg Horseman's association and helped plan many of their events. For many years, Mort volunteered at the Red Cross Meals on Wheels Program delivering food to the most needy in the Wickenburg Community. Mort was also on the Board of the Wickenburg Country Club and served as its' president for four years. He was also a supporter of the Desert Caballeros Western Museum and the Wickenburg Community Hospital. Mort who was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather was deeply loved by his family and his many friends. He lived life to the fullest and will be deeply missed.
