Published by Today's News-Herald on Sept. 1, 2024 - Lake Havasu City, Arizona - Marion Jean Lay, born on March 18, 1933 in Pittsburgh, PA, was a woman of immense love, generosity, compassion, and support. Marion, who spent the last 44 years of her life in Lake Havasu City, Arizona, passed away on August 22, 2024. Her life was a testament to the words of Albert Schweitzer, "The purpose of human life is to serve, and to show compassion and the will to help others." Marion's life was a beautiful journey of love and kindness. She was the heart and soul of her family, a loving wife to Donald Lay, and a nurturing mother to her children, Mark, Christopher, and Deborah Lay. Marion's legacy continues through her beloved grandchildren, Rebecca Butkus, Randall Lay, Jake Hutchins, and her great-granddaughters Kadyn Butkus and Bobby Lay, and grandson-in-law Trevor Butkus. In her role as a homemaker, she created a warm and inviting home filled with love and laughter. She was renowned for her generosity, often opening her home to friends and family, creating a sanctuary where love and compassion were always on display. Marion and Donald shared a love for travel, spending their summers exploring the United States in their motorhome, creating memories that will be cherished forever. The lake brought them to Havasu in 1980, and in 1982, they took over the Lake Havasu Jack n the Box franchise. Within the following year, they then bought the franchises in Needles and in Blythe. Marion is preceded in death by her father, Charles Yasik, and her beloved daughter, Deborah Lay. As we remember Marion, we celebrate a life filled with love, compassion, and generosity. Her memory will forever be a beacon of love and kindness to those who had the pleasure of knowing her.
