Born in Pembroke, Maine on Oct. 29, 1918.
Departed on Sep. 13, 2006 and resided in Cottonwood, AZ.

Ruth C. Smith, 87, resident of Cottonwood, Arizona, passed away Wednesday, September 13, 2006. She was born on October 29, 1918 to Norman Wesley and Nancy Jane (Bowman) Clark in Pembroke, Maine.

She was the youngest of nine children. Ruth graduated High School in 1930 as Valedictorian in Dennysville, Maine. Following High School, she attended the Machia’s Normal School, now known as the University of Maine.

Ruth was proud to carry the titles of wife, mother and homemaker. She was very involved in her community and volunteered much of her time to local organizations. She served on maternal-child health councils; she worked as a Scout Leader and with the student exchange program.

Ruth was an avid reader, and during her years in Maine she was well known as a horsewoman.

She is preceded in death by her parents, and all eight of her siblings.

Ruth was the loving wife of William R. Smith, Cottonwood, Ariz. for 66 beautiful years; the mother of William A. Smith, wife, Deborah, Flagstaff, Ariz., Nancy S. Simmons, Cottonwood, Ariz., and Catherine S. Walsh,husband, James, New Haven, Vt.; she was the grandmother of seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Mass will be held at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church on Monday, September 18, 2006 at 10:00 a.m.
